Arnulf Rainer

* 1929 in Baden (AT)
lives and works in Enzenkirchen (AT)

His idea of "painting in order to leave painting" leads Arnulf Rainer from "blind painting" to his famous overpaintings, which he has been doing since the early 1950s. His own and other people’s pictures and photos serve as the overpainting ground. The variation of this concept ranges from overpainted grimace photos to expressive finger paintings to the large series of crosses and landscape pictures.
