Japanese women are said to queue up to be photographed by him: In the 70s Nobuyoshi Araki quits reportage-photography and starts focusing on interpersonal themes. He gains cult status with “Sentimental Journey”, the intimate photo-diary of his honeymoon, and with the bondage photographs of the “Kinbaku” series. Censored for reasons of obscenity, the Japanese artist ironically re-adapts the censor bar in some of his photo-books by applying black bars with brush and paint.
