Peter Rataitz

* 1945 in Wolfsberg (AT)
lives and works in Lower Austria and Vienna (AT)

Peter Rataitz caused a sensation in the 1990s with projects such as “Don't be afraid: Free haircuts!”, which address animal testing in the cosmetics industry. Collages, echoes of comics but also reduced constructivist graphics determine series of works such as “Friseur” (“Hairdresser”), whereas his painterly oeuvre is very expressive. It is often combined with roughly timbered wooden strips of wood that act as a frame but also turn the picture into an object.
