Stück passt! | Franz Koglmann & Markus Mittringer | Aufnahmen
May 26 - June 25, 2022
Collaboration and mutual inspiration are again the central starting point in the forthcoming exhibition at Galerie Konzett. After Franz West & Friends, the gallery shows Stück passt! - Aufnahmen by Franz Koglmann and Markus Mittringer.
As the title suggests, the musician and the photographer also refer back to Franz West and his famous Passstücke (Adaptives)- about which West himself said that they would only become a complete work of art if people took action with them. With an Adaptive and the trumpet in his hands, Franz Koglmann performs in front of Markus Mittringer's camera in a double sense. This is obvious if you imagine the recordings of Koglmann’s Tanzmusik für Passzstücke (Dance music for Adaptives) - also because the 11 portrait shots of the photographer shown evoke the sound in visual form.
The exhibition is expanded with Labstücke and Portraits by Franz West, about which he himself said: “i like to make portraits because of the relationship that develops between me and the person portrayed. i'm also interested in the claim to have portrayed a person or parts of him, the manifold possibilities of interpretation to support this claim."
Mittringer: “i started taking pictures of franz occasionally, i didn't ask him much. never asked west anything before. but west's pieces were there, and koglmann had been familiar with their handling for decades. so it came about to use them. definitely also for the purpose of finding a picture. in any case, you got to know each other better through their use and dealing with them."
An edition of 11 pieces with photographs by Markus Mittringer and a sheet of scores by Franz Koglmann will be published as part of the exhibition.
